The 7 Areas of Learning in the EYFS
At our nursery, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, set by the Department for Education.
The EYFS supports children from birth to five years old and ensures every child learns, develops and thrives in a safe and nurturing environment.
Learning in the early years is centred around play, exploration and hands-on experiences. The curriculum is divided into 7 areas of learning, which work together to support your child’s overall development.
The Prime Areas
We help children develop strong speaking and listening skills by:
– Sharing stories and singing songs
– Encouraging conversations
– Asking open-ended questions
– Introducing new vocabulary
Children learn to express their ideas, understand others and build confidence when communicating.
Physical activity is a big part of nursery life!
Children develop:
– Gross motor skills through running, climbing, balancing and outdoor play
– Fine motor skills through drawing, cutting, threading and mark-making
We also support children in learning about healthy lifestyles and self-care skills, helping them
grow in independence.
Building positive relationships is at the heart of everything we do.
We support children to:
– Make friends and learn to share
– Manage their feelings
– Develop confidence and resilience
– Become independent learners
A happy, secure child is ready to explore and learn.

Children are encouraged to:

We make maths fun, practical and meaningful.
Children are naturally curious, and we encourage them to explore!

We nurture curiosity and a love of discovery.

These experiences help children express themselves and build confidence.
Supporting Every Child
Every child is unique. Our experienced practitioners carefully observe and support each child’s individual learning journey.
Through play-based learning, encouragement and strong partnerships with parents, we prepare children not only for school — but for life.
